National Programs

 

AlcoholEdu® Outside The Classroom   

      AlcoholEdu® is an interactive web-based course designed to give kids the facts on alcohol prevention. Youth who take the free course will receive a cash reward. Web-based courses are available for high school and higher education.

            AlcoholEdu® for Pinellas High Schools Students   

            Go to www.pinellascoalition.com and click-on “Click Here for AlcoholEDU.”  The course is preceded by a brief informational survey.

 

      HBO

                ADDICTION Project   

            The ADDICTION Project is a multi-platform campaign to educate America about advancements in understanding of drug and alcohol addiction and its treatment as a brain disease.  The projects features a new documentary that premiered on March 15, in addition to fourteen supplemental programs, a companion book, comprehensive companion web site, and a 2-week series of articles on addiction science and treatment  in USA Today.

            Other HBO documentaries   

            Other HBO documentaries on addiction are available on Methadone (“Methadonia”) and methamphetamine (“Crank”).

 

      International Institute for Alcohol Awareness (IIAA)   

      IIAA promotes policies, practices and public messaging that will prevent alcohol abuse and underage drinking by discouraging heavy alcohol consumption.  A priority focus of IIAA is a national campaign to promote awareness of the dangers and harms associated with underage drinking.  The website provides links to access policies, resources, studies, reports and top news articles and PodCasts on underage drinking.

 

      Leadership to Keep Children Alcohol Free   

      Leadership to Keep Children Alcohol Free is a coalition of governors’ spouses, federal agencies and public and private organizations that strives to prevent the use of alcohol by children ages 9 to 15.  This website contains information targeted to citizens, educators, health care providers, law enforcement, parents, policy makers, prevention practitioners, retailers and youth.  For youth, information is available on statistics, research, prevention resources, community planning and legislation.

      Keep Kids Alcohol Free: Strategies for Action   

            This brochure describes three basic strategies for preventing alcohol use by children ages 9-15 and ways these strategies can be applied in the home, the school and the community.

 

      National Highway Traffic Safety Administration   

                National Strategy to Stop Impaired Driving   

            This website includes success stories and best practices, program toolkits, research and legislation information.

            Alcohol Alert No. 67: Underage Drinking   

            This is a publication on underage drinking that covers why adolescents drink, what the risks are, and how underage drinking can be prevented.

            Alcohol Policy Classification System   

            The Alcohol Policy Classification System (APCS) is a tool for organizing and retrieving bills and regulations.  

            Alcohol Policy Information System   

            The Alcohol Policy Information System (APIS) is an online resource that provides detailed information on a wide variety of alcohol-related policies in the United States at both state and federal levels.

            College Drinking: Changing the Culture   

            CollegeDrinkingPrevention.gov contains research-based information on issues related to alcohol abuse and binge drinking among college students.

            Highlight on Underage Drinking   

            This website includes an overview of underage drinking policies in the United States and additional information on a variety of underage drinking policy topics.

            Initiative on Underage Drinking   

            This website is designed to provide information on important new research on underage drinking, the most current national statistics, links to other federal government underage drinking prevention resources, and updates on the Steering Committee for the initiative.

            Measuring Alcohol Policy Enforcement and Compliance   

            This web page addresses issues pertaining to measurement of alcohol policy enforcement and compliance.  In addition to an introduction and overview, this site provides a detailed table of available enforcement and compliance measurement databases and reviews and analyses of the enforcement and compliance research literature from the disciplinary perspectives of public health/public policy, sociology/criminology, and economics.

            State Profiles of Underage Drinking Laws   

            This is a link to a Florida information page that summarizes policies relating to underage drinking for Florida.  Links are available for all states.

           National Liquor Law Enforcement Association (NLLEA)   

            Alcohol beverage control enforcement: Legal research report   

            This report addresses the gap in the research literature by analyzing variations in 12 key legal policies addressing underage drinking and drinking to intoxication, including—as it pertains to underage drinking—purchase of, possession of, consumption by, and furnishing alcohol to minors, and use of false ID cards.  For each of the 12 legal policies, the report provides an overview of state laws.

            ServSafe Alcohol - Responsible Alcohol Service  

            The ServSafe Alcohol program outlines effective responsible alcohol service practices for all front-of-the-house staff, including bartenders, waiters, hosts, busers, security and valets.  This includes issues pertaining to underage customers. ServSafe is voluntary in Florida.

      National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information

      This website provides a range of resources and campaign materials targeted to educating and empowering youth to reject illicit drugs.  The campaign targets messages that reach “wherever they live, work, learn, and play.”  Of particular interest may be efforts targeting faith leaders.

 

      SAMHSA’s National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information   

            Underage Drinking Prevention Action Guide and Planner   

            This publication is intended to assist prevention professionals in identifying strong messages, coordinating outreach efforts with other organizations and groups, and making youth alcohol prevention a priority. It includes a monthly planner that suggests themes or issues that can be targeted for underage alcohol prevention efforts.  Two issues of interest include “Alcohol Availability,” and “Alcohol and the College Experience.”
